After leading one or two VTS sessions with you students, watch for times when some of the strategies show up in their ordinary class activities, both written and oral. You might find students looking more carefully at an illustration in a textbook or a poster on the wall, or using more descriptive language in written work. You might notice them providing evidence for a point of view in a discussion, or prefacing a comment with a phrase such as, "I agree with Tanisha, but I want to add another thing." You may even notice students listening more openly to opinions that differ from theirs.
Post-Lesson
Activity Suggestions Support the behaviors mentioned above at every opportunity. This may mean spontaneously resuming the role of facilitator for student discussions whenever the opportunity arises. You might also express appreciation when observation is careful, or when a point is well argued, with evidence provided.
