History of Shoes in the Sholem Collection

Sholem Shoes Post-Lesson
Grade Level:
Third-Fifth Grade
Adaptable: All Grades
Time: 5-6 Thirty-Minute Periods

Procedure:

  1. Have students discuss the findings for the shoe surveys in small groups.
  2. As they discuss their data, create catagories that will define the different ways shoes have changed in style, function, design, materials, cost, size, etc.
  3. Have the students create a bar graph of survey findings based on the newly created shoe catagories.
  4. Have students develop a record of the history of shoes by making a journal with contemporary shoe images cut from current magazine or catalogs or researching archival information about costume and clothing in old adverstisements.
  5. Have students photograph or draw shoes of their own or other people to record and place in their journals.
