Museum Preservation and Care of Artifacts:
History of Shoes in the Sholem Collection

Early American Museum
Mahomet, Illinois

Donation

In 1997 Myron and Stanford Sholem decided to donate a collection of sample shoes from their stores to the Early American Museum in Mahomet, Illinois. The museum was thrilled to have such a fine collection of shoes, most of them in almost new condition. When the shoes arrived, however, the real work for the museum began. Now it was time to process them into our collection The first thing you need to know before you work with an old object is how to pick it up.
