Teacher's Section: Owls & Their Adaptations

 

"This owl likes to take a good look around…"

Owls are fascinating animals. They possess many unique adaptations to help them survive. By completing the following activities students should not only gain an appreciation for these nocturnal predators but also increase their understanding of birds in general, adaptations and food chains and webs.

Lesson Objectives

  • Students will list at least three characteristics of birds.
  • Students will list at least three adaptations of an owl.
  • Students will define the terms "predator" and "prey".
  • Students will understand and be able to give an example of a food chain or food web.
  • Students will be given other resources for furthering their study of birds of prey and owls in general.
