Topic Title 6th grade: "Simple and Compound Machines"
Abstract: The class will construct models to illustrate the six simple machines: lever, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, wheel and axle, and screw. They will study a group of compound machines and identify which of the six simple machines are present in each. They may offer the project models for display at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum.
Topic Title 7th Grade: "Cultural Characteristics Preserved by Folk Tales"
Abstract: The seventh grade students will study the relationships of known cultural/historical evidence and those cultural characteristics that are illustrated in verbal lore (storytelling, folk tales, lyrics, etc.) and possibly cosmology.
Topic Title 8th Grade: "Creating a Virtual Museum"
Abstract:It is difficult to effectively display museum exhibits online, especially if the museum has unique and challenging collections. Utilizing World Wide Web pages and Quicktime VR technology, we will work to convey the character of selected museums to the online audience.
