Third Grade:
Goal #1: Students will have a working knowledge
of our solar system.
Students will:
- Compare the size and surfaces of the sun, moon, and earth.
- Create craters by using sand and rocks.
- Investigate the motions of the earth and moon.
- Identify the phases of the moon and learn why they occur.
- Understand the causes of eclipses.
- Learn about the planets and their positions in the solar system.
- Compare the orbits of the earth and moon.
- Understand the new moon phase.
Goal #2: Students will have a working knowledge of the principles of scientific research and their application in simple research projects.
Students will:
- Work with partners to research and write reports on the sun and planets.
- Construct a model of the solar system.
- Create a web page which compiles their research.
Fourth Grade:
Goal #1: Students will have a working knowledge of our universe and constellations.
Students will:
- Understand the moon phases.
- Chart the relationship of planets to the sun.
- Investigate the pull of gravity.
- Understand comets, asteroids, and meteors.
- Learn how to graph constellations
- Design a "time line" in Space.
- Draw signs of the zodiac.
Goal #2: Students will have a working knowledge of the principles of scientific research and their application in simple research projects.
Students will:
- Work with partners to research and write reports on the universe and constellations.
- Design a trip to a new planet.
- Construct a project of a constellation.
- Explore new worlds through science and technology.
- Create a web page which compiles their research.
