New Trier High School

To Student Pages/Project MIC

During the creation of the project:

Students will be able to develop organizational skills by designing the various steps to arrange and categorize information, both written and pictorial for their part of the web page.

Students will be able to work in a group setting with an individual goal and be able to achieve a common group goal.

Students will be able to resolve differences of opinions for the common goal of the group.

Students will be able to learn alternative techniques in problem solving through software applications that have provided challenges throughout the project.

Students will learn various software programs to facilitate the goals of their project-- word processing, data formatting, photo manipulation and enhancing, and web page software.

Students will be able to synthesis both curriculums -- chemistry and geography -- into a cohesive presentation for publication.

Students will be able to synthesize a multitude of research articles and coalesce information about a singular topic.

Objectives for other students using the presentation:

Students will be exposed to an integration of two very different curricula and see examples of connections that can be made between geography and chemistry.

Students will learn the different cultural adaptations of tools and how different parts of the world solve technological problems in different ways by developing different tools.

Students will be exposed to the concept of metals and alloys, their proper use and misuse. Students will learn the properties of different metals and explore why they were used in a particular tool.

Students will get a sense of the evolution of tools and how some tools influenced not only society, but the production of other tools.

Students will get a global view of concepts like housing defense, preparation for death, and transport of goods. They will learn how different geographical aspects of the environment make using certain tools more practical than others.

Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of technology through tools and time by comparing the increase in proliferation of different types of tools and the chemistry and metallurgy behind the development of material sciences and the manufacture of such tools.
