Gingham

Bonnet

This mid-nineteenth century sunbonnet is made from gingham.

Gingham, made in the east and shipped west, was a popular cloth used by women in east Central Illinois for bonnets, linings, aprons, and many other clothing needs.

Ledger entry from an 1840s Jacksonville, IL store.
Mr. Alexander would have kept a similar record.
